Removing the hood on a 1950 John Deere Model B at Rusty Bucks Ranch LLC |
This is the Step by Step process of removing the hood from a 1950 John Deere Model B. Many other two-cylinder Deere's will follow this same basic procedure. This is the proper procedure for installing a new muffler if your hood hasn't been cut. Have a cut hood? See how to fix that... HERE Start by removing the three bolts from the nose cone and get it out of the way. Then remove your left and right grilles. The grills have two visible bolts on the rear edge. There are also 3 other bolts in each at the front of each grille... look in behind the steering pedestal at the grille screens, you'll see them. |
With your nose cone and grilles removed, take off the bearing cup at the front of the steering shaft. The steering shaft has to comne out through the front of the tractor. Remove your steering wheel and begin turning the shaft as if you were making a right turn. Continue until the worm gear threads all the way out the front of the steering pedestal. Then pull the shaft all the way through. |
Now, unhook those same two wires from the generator. |
Now remove the four bolts holding the dash panel to the rear of the hood. Be careful, there is a water temp line and a oil pressure tube that will be decayed. It can very easily be broken. Unhook the wiring terminals from your amp gauge at this time. Those wires run through the hood. |
Now disconnect any throttle or choke linkages that will restrict the hood removal. (You can click on the photos below for a larger view) |
price structure simple, labor plus parts & material. will not bid a job, offer the best estimate we can but it will only be an estimate. When you give a firm bid for doing any type of repair or service on this type of equipment, you must have a built in cushion to cover any unexpected problems that might arise. If no problems arise, the bidder comes out ahead and the customer loses, however, if major problems arise the bidder loses. Our policy is made to be fair for both parties concerned. After a project has been started and if any unexpected major problems should arise, the customer is always notified before work continues. We do our best to keep our customers informed. When we go to settle an account, we do not like unexpected surprises just as much as the customer. We can/will stop the restoration process at any time per the customers request. Should unexpected hardships occur, you are not locked in to finish to completion any project that is underway. We recognize that daily life brings unexpected obstacles along the way. We can delay or stop our services at your request should you find yourself in a difficult spot. |
